Assassination of Dutch Drug Trafficker in Atizapán

The famous Dutch drug trafficker Marco Ebben, linked to the criminal organization Los Mayos, was murdered on Thursday, February 13, in Atizapán, State of Mexico. Two armed men attacked Ebben, shooting him at least 15 times with high-caliber weapons as he headed to his armored truck in Plaza Antigua, Zona Esmeralda. The crime scene found spent casings from .223 and 9 mm weapons, which triggered a strong police operation in the area, also secured by members of the Secretariat of the Navy.

Marco Ebben, dubbed by some sources as an alleged international drug trafficker, was known for faking his death on several occasions, including last year, which led some friends to mourn his supposed death. Although no authority has officially confirmed the identity of the body found between two trucks in the mall parking lot.

Ebben was embroiled in the struggle for control of the Sinaloa Cartel between Los Chapitos, sons of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, and the allies of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada. Currently, Zambada is facing a trial for drug trafficking to the United States. Despite being reported to be in Mexico months ago, there are no public official reports regarding this. Europol mentions him as part of a network that trafficked cocaine from Brazil to the Netherlands by hiding it in pineapple containers.

In 2020, Ebben was sentenced to seven years in prison in the Netherlands, from where he managed to escape and is presumed to have fled to the Middle East.
